For the hair system, toupee or hair patch you already wear
Hair system maintenance is the appointment that keeps your system secure and looking right, usually every 2 to 4 weeks. We call it the Hair System Service: $100 for about an hour.
Every visit happens at our one salon on Brookhurst Street in Huntington Beach, for clients across Orange County. Wearing a topper or a women’s system? See women’s hair replacement, at the same prices.

What happens at a hair system maintenance visit
We take your system off, clean the unit and your scalp, and bond it back on, in about an hour

Removal
Your system comes off and the old tape or adhesive is released.

Cleaning the hairpiece
The unit is washed and the old bond is cleaned off the base.

Head shave and scalp wash
The area under the base is shaved, old glue is cleaned off and your scalp is washed, so the new bond goes onto clean, smooth skin.

Reattachment
Your system is positioned and bonded again with tape or glue.

Blow-dry
Dried and finished before you leave.

How often should a hair system be serviced?
Typically every 2 to 4 weeks. Your own interval depends on how long your bond holds

What shortens the gap between visits
- Oily skin or heavy sweating: workouts, outdoor work, summer heat
- Swimming, in the pool or the ocean
- Tape rather than liquid adhesive; tape bonds usually need renewing sooner
- Sun on the hairline, and styling products creeping into the edges
Dry skin, an office routine and cooler weather work the other way, toward the 4-week end.
A bond chosen for your skin and routine lasts longer, as does keeping the edges clean and dry (see how often to wash a hair system). A bonded system needs regular servicing for as long as you wear it.
Between visits: what you do at home
Most of the work happens in the chair, but a few habits stretch your interval:
- Wash with a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo and keep conditioner on the lengths, away from the base.
- Pat the hairline dry and use low heat; a hot dryer on the edges weakens the bond.
- Rinse with fresh water after the pool or the ocean.
- Leave lifting edges alone until your visit: pulling or re-gluing over old adhesive can tear the base.
- A silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction and tangling overnight.
For full routines, read our hair system care tips.
Signs your hair system needs maintenance
Don’t wait these out: a lifting edge strains the base, and small tears grow

- Edges lifting at the front hairline, the temples or the perimeter
- A hairline that has moved or sits unevenly
- Itching, a damp feeling or an odor under the base
- Adhesive or residue visible around the hairline
- Hair that looks flat, dry or tangled, or sheds more than usual
- Color that has faded or turned brassy after sun or salt water
If redness, soreness or irritation under the bond doesn’t settle, see a physician before your next re-bond: we’re a salon, not a medical clinic. Redness or itching from an adhesive is a form of contact dermatitis (American Academy of Dermatology). For the causes behind each sign, read hair system problems and their fixes.

Switching your hair system maintenance to us
Book the Hair System Service for the system you already wear, including one bought or fitted elsewhere. There’s no plan to sign up for: you book a visit and pay for that visit.
Helpful to know before your first visit
- Your base type (lace, thin skin or mono) and where the unit came from
- The tape or adhesive you’ve been using, and how long it holds
- When it was last taken off and cleaned
- Anything that’s bothered you: lifting in one spot, a too-dense hairline, color that doesn’t match
Bring your system as it is
A maintenance visit services the system you have. If your unit is worn past its life, replacing it may make more sense; ask us when you book.
Hair system color, worn patches and lifting between visits
Add color to any visit. For an urgent re-bond, call us first
Color
Matched to your natural hair and your system. With maintenance it’s one booking, Hair System Service + Color ($145, about 1 hour 45 min), coloring both.
Worn or torn?
Hair patches aren’t repaired. Most start to wear after about three months, and then it’s time for a new one. Color work, including grey, is part of the Colorservice; how far a particular unit’s color can change is something we check at the visit.
Coming off early?
Call +1 (714) 498-7269 and say what’s lifting and where. A same-day visit depends on that day’s openings.
Hair patch service, toupee maintenance and re-bonding
All the same appointment here: the Hair System Service, at $100
Hair patch servicing, toupee maintenance, hairpiece re-bonding and hair unit service are one appointment. The names change by country and generation, but the product is the same: hair on a thin base, bonded to the scalp. If “hair patch” is your word, read hair patches, explained; if you call yours a toupee, see toupees for men.

Can you do hair system maintenance yourself?
Yes. Some wearers re-tape or re-glue at home between salon visits, and some do it all themselves. A salon visit is worth it for the full reset: a thorough clean of the base, a clean scalp, and a hairline placed by someone looking at it from the outside.
Home maintenance tends to go wrong in three ways: a hairline set crooked or too low, adhesive in the hair, and rushed removal that tears the base. For the how-to, read our hair system maintenance tips and how to use a glue remover.
Our online store sells hair systems only, not tape, adhesive, remover or shampoo.
