What happens at your hair system installation

Prep, attach, cut in: one visit of about two hours

Plan the look

You and your stylist agree where the hairline sits and the cut you want. A photo helps.

Prepare the scalp

Any system you’re wearing is removed gently and your scalp is shampooed. The area the base covers is cleared so the bond holds on smooth, clean skin.

Prepare the bond

The base is trimmed to the shape of the area it covers, then tape or adhesive goes on where the system will sit.

Cut in and blend

The system’s hair is cut and blended with your own for a natural-looking haircut. This is the step that matters most.

Style

Your stylist finishes the style, and you leave with your system fitted.

First time wearing a system? Your base may need shaping from scratch, so ask when you book how long to allow.

Tape or glue: how your hair system is attached

It depends on how long you want it to hold, how much you sweat and how your skin reacts

A common approach uses both: glue at the front hairline, tape around the rest. If you’ve reacted to an adhesive before, tell us when you book.

A glue-on hairpiece or toupee is attached the same way. The name changes; the installation doesn’t. Clip-on systems attach to your own hair and come off daily, and we fit those too: see the pros and cons of clip-on systems or how hair system tape is applied and removed.

Bought your hair system online?

Bring it in for installation

You can bring the hair system of your choice, from our online store or another website. Installation is $250 either way.

Before you order, check three things

  • Size. The base must cover the whole area. It can be trimmed smaller, never made bigger. Most systems in our store are 8″ × 10″ and get trimmed to fit.
  • Base type. Lace, thin skin and monofilament (mono, a fine, durable mesh) bases look and wear differently. See how to pick the right hair system.
  • Color and density. Order the closest match to your own hair. Choose enough length and density for your preferred style; the cut-in can reduce them.

Not sure a unit will suit you? Bring the product link to a free consultation before you order.

No system yet?

Our online store sells 30 men’s hair systems from $169 to $379: partial pieces start at $169 and full systems at $189. A full system plus installation comes to $439–$629, before shipping and tax.

Already cut to your template?

Call before you book. Online booking lists one installation service, which includes shaping and cutting the system. If yours is already cut and you only want it attached and styled, ask what’s possible.

Hair system installation: salon or DIY?

You can learn to attach a system yourself. The first installation is the hard part: the hairline, the base shape and the cut-in decide how natural it looks, and a cut can’t be undone.

What tends to go wrong at home

  • The hairline sits too low, too straight or off-center
  • Too much glue at the front, which shows at the hairline
  • The base is trimmed too small, with no way back
  • A blunt cut-in: the system and your own hair look like two haircuts

Where doing it yourself makes sense

Reattaching a system that’s already been cut and shaped, once you know how. The trade-off: a salon installation costs more up front ($250 here) and needs an appointment; doing it yourself costs supplies and time, and you’re responsible for the fit.

After your hair system installation

Your first follow-up visit is due in about 2 to 4 weeks

The first weeks

  • Ask us what to avoid in the first days, such as washing, workouts or swimming.
  • Wash the system gently; how often depends on the base (see a washing routine by base type).
  • Heavy sweat, heat and sun wear a fresh bond down faster.
  • If an edge lifts before your next visit, call +1 (714) 498-7269.

Questions and answers

Hair system installation: common questions

$250 to install a hair system you already own. That covers a 120-minute appointment: removal of any system you’re wearing, a shampoo, attaching your system with tape or glue, then cutting and blending it with your own hair to create your chosen style. The system itself isn’t included, and color is a separate service.
Allow about two hours: installation is booked for 120 minutes. A free consultation, if you have one first, is a separate 30-minute booking. If your system is ready, the installation can follow the consultation the same day.
Not your whole head. The area the base covers is cleared so tape or glue can hold on smooth, clean skin, and the hair at your sides and back stays and is blended in. Before your first installation, contact us for advice on shaving or trimming at home.
Yes. Installation includes cutting and blending the system with your own hair to create your chosen style, so bring a photo. What’s realistic depends on the unit: its hair length, density and base size set the limits. If the style you want needs a longer or fuller system, find out before you order.
Tell us about any privacy needs when you book, or call +1 (714) 498-7269 and ask how the visit is set up.
Color is a separate service, $45 for 30 minutes, matched to your natural hair and your system. The easiest match starts with the order: some systems in our store include grey hair, so pick the closest shade before you buy.
Yes. A toupee, hairpiece, hair patch or hair unit is installed the same way as a hair system: prepared, attached with tape or glue, cut in and styled, during the same $250 installation appointment. For the words themselves, see toupees for men and what a hair patch is.
